Organization

The Order of Daedalians was chartered by 35 WWI pilots. As the organization grew, the membership considered all WWI pilots to be founding members. There are 14,185 WWI pilots who were the first to fly in defense of our nation. Your membership will perpetuate their legacy.

To perpetuate means to preserve the legacy. For Daedalians, it means to honor those who first served as military pilots through action. Some examples are researching and sharing the history of your founder through articles or presentations and talking with the family to preserve the memory. Any way you choose to honor your Founder will perpetuate his spirit of patriotism and deeds of sacrifice.

Daedalian is a variation from the story of Daedalus. He was the first human to fly in Greek mythology. The WWI pilots used the story to create the Order of Daedalians, a fellowship of professional American military aviators.

These are Latin variations of the word “Fly.” It means, “We Flew, We Fly.”

Please contact our membership coordinator at membership@daedalians.org.
