The Daedalian Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Order of Daedalians. A 501(c)(3) organization, the main purpose of the organization is to provide encouragement for young men and women to become military pilots.

The Foundation provides scholarships through a variety of means. See below for our summary of programs. To apply for our scholarships, please use the scholarship form on our documents page. The requirements for our scholarships are that you must want to be a military pilot and have a financial need.

Matching Scholarships

The purpose of the Matching Scholarship Funds Program is to encourage Daedalian Flights to establish college and flight scholarships supporting the Objectives of the Order of Daedalians. For sponsoring flight contacts, visit If your area is not supported by a local flight, please look at the Unsponsored Scholarship opportunity or any of our other scholarships.

John and Alice Egan Multi-Year Scholarships

The Egan Multi-Year Mentoring Scholarship Program is for a student living in an area where a flight is willing to commit $500 annually to a multi-year mentoring program with a maximum of four years for an individual student who has completed his freshman year. The Daedalian Foundation will supplement the local flight's $500 with at least $2,000 each year. FOr the initial year of an Egan scholarhship, the student can use the form link at the top of this list, for additional years, the applicant should use the Egan recertification form.


Descendants Scholarships

To further the Objectives of the Order of Daedalians insofar as assisting in the education of deserving young persons in the fields of aerospace engineering and flight, and encouraging those young people who receive valuable aerospace training to pursue a military career, the Daedalian Foundation has established a Descendants Scholarship Program for descendants of Daedalian members. The Foundation will award up to three (3) $2,000 scholarships annually to eligible students nominated by Daedalian Flights or submitted directly by the descendent and to the Scholarship Committee of the Daedalian Foundation. Additional awards may be made based upon availability of resources.


The Daedalian Foundation awards up to 9 - $2,500 scholarships (13 Air Force, 3 Army and 3 Navy) to cadets selected and nominated by the ROTC headquarters (Air Force, Navy, Army). Eligibility is ROTC, medically qualified for flight training, planning to apply for a military pilot allocation. Cadets receiving these awards are not eligible to receive a Matching or any other Scholarship in the same year.

Cadet Flight Indoctrination Program

The Colonel Les Leavoy and Brigadier General David Lee "Tex" Hill Scholarships are available to students in high school or college who want to learn how to fly any flight participating in the Daedalian CFIP Program. The annual award(s) are funded from separate accounts within the Daedalian Foundation. The annual number of awards will be dependent on funds available from the ongoing interest and donation income.

Spencer Scholarships

The Colonel Loren and Mrs. Randy Spencer annual scholarships (4) are awards made to applicants submitted and sponsored by the flight(s) most successful in recruiting new members into the Order of Daedalians. Please check your local flight to see if this award is available. You can check at visit

Colonel John D. Hedges Memorial Scholarship

A minimum $1,000 scholarship given in the memory of Colonel John D. Hedges. The scholarship goes to the most qualified(1) student from  either – Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, or Alaska.  Eligible students are Air Force Cadets with a desire to fly transport aviation and medically qualified for flight training.   


The purpose of the Unsponsored Scholarship Funds Program is to encourage Daedalian Flights to establish college and flight scholarships supporting the Objectives of the Order of Daedalians. Please submit the application directly to the Daedalian Headquarters at Order of Daedalians, PO BOX 249, Randolph AFB, TX 78148. Attn: Scholarship Program Manager.

Moody Scholarships

The scholarships are $2,000 each for up to 5  Texas High School Senior Students attending their first year in a Texas College system.  The scholarship is for students with the desire and physical ability to serve in the military.  Their area of study must be in STEM  (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).  This scholarship is for the year 2016. Applications must be submitted by 1 April and decided quickly by the scholarship committee so an announcement can be made at the student’s graduation.  Applicants must be rated in the top 5th of their class.  Texas flights will make their nominations, the Scholarship Program Manager will review and rank candidates.

CAP Scholarships

The CAP program, dedicated to developing informed and well-rounded citizens and future aerospace leaders, is one of the more dynamic youth activities in America. For this reason the Daedalian Foundation awards Major General Lucas V. Beau Scholarships to CAP cadets for ground and flight instruction leading to a private pilot's license. The recipients of these awards are nominated by Headquarters, Civil Air Patrol, Maxwell AFB, Alabama, and approved by the Foundation Scholarship Committee.
